What is Global Warming?

If we are going to look around us, it is evident that the world has changed and still continues to change. We can never say that the trees are greener and that the air is cleaner. If we are going to assess the things that are happening today, we will be able to see that these are already effects of global warming.

The simplest definition that I can give is that global warming is a climate change caused by our behavior that affects the whole world. This climate change can go on for decades and it is influenced by so many factors. From the time when industrial revolution started, a lot of activities gravely affect the environment. Most of our everyday activities increase gases like carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, etc. Assimilation and discharge of infrared radiation caused by the mentioned gases temperate our planet’s lower atmosphere and shell.

Effects of Global Warming

Global warming could affect not only our daily lives but also other living organisms. There are number of recreation, food and animals affected by this phenomenon. Not only these, it is also a threat to our health and our national security. Here are common effects brought about by the climate change.

  • Activities that we enjoy like skiing, fly fishing, ski vacations, snorkeling and other water recreation will no longer be possible. The high temperature of the surface and atmosphere will make it not possible to have skiing venues and aside from this the sea temperature will also raise making water ventures difficult to carry out.
  • The global climate change may strongly affect crops, flowers and other plants’ growth.
  • Animals that are used to colder environment will have a hard time surviving as the climate becomes hotter. On the other hand, insects like mosquitoes will increase in figures because stagnant water caused by drainages will be their main source of continued existence.
  • Natural disaster like volcano eruptions, wild fires, thunderstorms, hurricanes and floods will happen more often.
  • Illnesses and sickness like heart attack, heat stroke and other deadly diseases will increase causing our lives to be endangered.
  • Starvation and famine will also happen.

What are we going to do?

Since we are the ones responsible for our acts, the answer is in our hands. There are loads of dangerous effects brought by the warmer temperature change and these can be prevented in small and effective ways. Burning fuels can drive global warming so it is high time that we control this. There are sensible actions and realistic solutions that we can apply like increasing global warming awareness. If most of us, if not all, knows what global warming could lead to, then we are able to do more preventive measures. Energy such as electricity must also be conserved. Simple acts like switching off lights that are not used can be very effective. Let us focus on our main goal – to control global warming and its effects. Every practical action which will help us create a cleaner and improved atmosphere will be helpful. All we need to do is act and start in our own homes and everything else will follow accordingly.
